Lab of X- Rays

The X-Ray lab was established in 2014 with the support of JICA to assist in the development of the new department of Geo-resources and Geotechnical Engineering at ITC. The lab comprises both X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) equipment, as well as portable XRD and XRF devices that can be utilized in the field. Currently, the lab not only supports academic programs and research but also provides valuable analytical services to various industries. Over the years, it has earned a strong reputation for its analytical services, attracting industrial clients from both national and international sectors. The lab's expertise in X-ray analysis has made significant contributions to diverse industries, including mining, geotechnics, materials, construction, and environmental assessment.

Applications

Identification the mineral compositions, chemical composition for geological, biological, alloy, rubber, ceramic, and archaeological samples etc.

  • Mineral and chemical characterization of geological samples in mining sectors.

  • Sand quality characterization (for constriction and glass production sectors)

  • Limestone quality characterization (for cement and gypsum production)

  • Characterization of samples for Materials Science and Eng.

  • Identification the composition of automobile spar parts and electrical cable wire.

  • Other sample for Geo-environment, Agriculture.

X- Ray Fluorescence (XRF)

X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is an analytical technique that can be used to determine the chemical composition of a wide variety of sample types including rock, sand, soil, slurries and loose powders. It can be readily automated for use in high-through put industrial environments, plus XRF provides both qualitative and quantitative information on a sample.

X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) a model of Rigaku Mini Flex II is a technique used in materials science to determine the crystallographic structure of a material. Determination of unknown solids is critical to studies in geology, environmental science, material science, engineering, or polymer science.

Portable XRD &XRF

The availability of portable XRD and XRF devices allows researchers and technicians to conduct on-site analysis, making it a versatile resource for fieldwork.
